Missouri S&T Formula SAE Racing achieved great success at the 2012 Goodyear Challenge, winning first place in both combined and individual autocross, as well as taking second in endurance.
The team was awarded ten of Goodyear's 2704 FSAE tires. In addition, a bowling ball was awarded to commemorate the excessive number of cones taken down during the endurance event.
"The Goodyear Shootout went great this year. We had two drivers capable of getting the most out of the car and that's just what we did. The courses set up for autocross and endurance are
a little more open than courses found at the SAE events and really allowed Zach and I to get the most out of our aero package. It had been a while since I had drove the car before autocross
but the team did a great job setting up the car allowing me to quickly get reacquainted with the handling. I wasn't sure how well I did in autocross upon crossing the finish line, but upon
seeing the rest of the team I was informed that it was the fastest time of the day and would be the run that won autocross. Following the two official autocross runs Zach and I went back out
to do a couple more runs for practice and were able to shave another second off our official times. After the practice autocross runs I was almost certain we could win the endurance event.
However, the endurance course pushed the brakes too hard leading to brake fade about halfway through my stint. When I gave the car over to Zach in the driver change I knew he would have
problems with brake fade within his first couple laps. Overall I am happy with the outcome, we proved to have the fastest car and won 10 tires that we needed for the next event in Toronto." - Alec Surrat, California Autocross winner
